Wrap Then in Love

World Wide Quilting Bee

Welcome to a fantastic weekend of quilting for Wrap Them in Love. This is a great way to kick off our year and start on our way to providing 2000 children with quilts in the year 2000!
Our friends in Australia started out ahead of the rest of us. While we were all sleeping last night, they were already starting out their day. Here is a note from Tracy in Australia:

Hi there to Ellen, Becky and everyone. Well its Friday nite here - around 8:00 p.m and boy, did the day go fast. Four of us girls got quilting and I was hypnotised by the sound of our sewing machines whirring away. I had such a lovely day - surrounded by kind, caring people - when to top of the day - BECKY RANG - YEP I SAID BECKY RANG - me, yep little ol' me - it was her birthday and she rang me!!! What a buzz that was. She (don't listen to this Becky, you may get a big head) is absolutley as gorgeous in 'person' as she is on the net. My fellow sew-ers were blown away too that she had taken the time (her time 1:00a.m in the morning and my time 2:00 p/m in the afternoon) to call. Becky you can listen now, Thanks. that was SSSOOOOOO SPECIAL. Wahoo!!! (to quote Cher)......... Anyways, we got going, and going, and going... We have done several gazillion blocks, made 3 quilt tops - but will have heaps of quilt tops when we sew the blocks together. Proud to say, that by my calculations, *drum roll* we will have done 15 quilt tops!!!!!!! Way to go!.. The quilts (even if I say so myself, and I will) are gorgeous! I will be taking photos when they are all together - and will send pics as soon as I can. We will continue over the weekend to finish the tops - I am on STOP WORK mode at home - and I'm gonna quilt til I wilt. Hugs to everyone! I am back to the sewing machine!! YeeHah! Tracy in *heaven* in Oz Please excuse the cross-post, I wanna get back to sewing WTIL quilts..

Tracy does sound a little bit excited, doesn't she? There is just something about getting together with friends all over the world and sewing for needy children------what could be better???
The next that I heard from is Ulrika in Sweden. I am just starting my day and Ulrika has already been quilting up a storm. She has even sent some wonderful pictures to share with everyone.

I got started at 11 a.m. (4 a.m. in Chicago), and now it's 12:30. I have 2 tops finished. I had some blocks lying around that I used. Sending photos to Ellen. I have a pile of fabrics and blocks and things, and good music (Céline Dion, Shania Twain, Antique, Tom Jones etc.), so I'm all set for a FUN weekend! :-)
Hugsies,
Ulrika

I am working on the 4th top now, it's almost done.
I'm having lots of fun, even though I don't have company. Just as well by the way... don't think any of you ladies would enjoy being around me right now. I'm playing music real loud and singing along with Shania and Céline and others, and my singing voice leaves A LOT to wish for... ROTFL
Hm... that could be the reason DH and the kids stay downstairs... *smile*
Lots of hugs,
Ulrika

The next place to check in was Texas!!

There is a WTIL Sew-In happening this weekend at Marie Lowe's house. If you live near Abilene, Texas, & would like to join us, email us at and we will give you directions. Marie said there is room for several to sleep over & she is cooking. I am packing the car now, but stopped to check email messages. So join us if you can. Marie has a wonderful place in the country. Hugs to all......Ida in Texas

The Bluebonnet Sues are ready to get started!!! We are having breakfast now. Ida and Ginger got here about one hour ago. There well be the three of us today but are looking forward to have four more join us tomorrow. Some of those are from the Tx Quilters list and some from Baird. Looking forward to hear what everybody else is doing. Back to quilting.
Marie.

Star is checking in from Arizona!!

I have the Irish Chain all finished! No camera but I will get some pictures taken this evening I hope. DH had to take the camera back to work for a bit. After all it is theirs (hehehe) I used what batting I could piece together - wanted to get this one done and finished! Off to get shorn! Oh to be able to see through those bangs again!
You all must be sewing hard as it is so quiet! YEAH! We can do it! yes we can!
Star - sewing alone in Arizona but have cyber friends all over the world sewing too

---another picture from Sweden!!

7 p.m. in Sweden, noon in Chicago, I finished a small top. I just love these colours! My youngest son, Christian, wanted to be in the photo too. He's almost 3. On to the next top then... :-)

Hello from Vienna!!!

I have finished two tops so far. Both got a bit bigger than I had planned but I am sure there are bigger kids at well. One is just 6" patches cut from funny children fabrics the other one is a bar pattern with a checkered border. I am cutting and sewing blocks for a third one.
Hugs from Vienna,
Maria

Here is a picture of my two "hostesses" in the store. Mary and Nancy have been here since 9:00 this morning. They started out by making huge signs to put all over the front windows of the store. Now they are sewing----and trying to talk everyone who walks into the store to come and join them for a little while!

Here comes ALABAMA!!!

Good Evening everyone!! Just wanted to share an update on the status of the Bama Belles Bee! We have had a great turnout! Linda and Shannon are staying here at Joy's house along Betsy (Joy's friend) and Joys DIL and granddaughter! We are all busy at our machines piecing away! During the day today, we were joined by several friends of Joys: Betsy, Jaudon, Marti and Jane.
Our statistics so far:
20 to start with (quilt tops or finished quilts made prior to Fri monring)
As of Fri night after 8 peoples work finished or are in the making of 21!
This gives the Bama Belles a total of 41 as of Friday night - and we still have 2 days of quilting! We will be working into the night!!!!
Good Luck Everyone!

There are so many pictures coming in from Alabama that they needed their own page!! Click here to see how they are doing.

Here are some pictures from Arizona:

- guess I should send the only two photos I have - one of me where I actually machine quilted a pretty good size quilt using trains for the enter pieces in the front and a wonderful - will get a photo of it tonight - old fashioned trains print for the back. I bought the backing about 4 years ago - saw it and bought all they had! Then there is a pile of quilts for WTIL on the corner of the dining room table and the unfinished Irish chain - center section only thrown there. DH brought me some caffeine free 7 up and some fried chicken. Told me I had to stop and eat and quit sewing so much! LOL I took a 15 minute break! Back to sewing!
WE ARE DOING IT!
Star - twinkling and going to the second machine to let the first one cool down! hehehe

Kitty from Kentucky checks in---

Hi everyone
I'm machine quilting #5. Then I will put binding on all of them at once. I had to stay at a motel one night last week so I took a card board cutting board and layered and pinned them on the bed at the motel. I had three more to do but ran out of safety pins. I had found a great buy on some cute dog material so I cut it up and added borders. Fast work but they look like they will appeal to kids.
Happy quilting from Kentucky
Kitty

A note from Alaska-----

Have 1 quilt done except for binding - 4 tops done and will be working on finishing them tomorrow & Sunday -- it is so neat to be sewing and thinking of all the other ladies putting the "pedal to the metal" around the world -- have to do a grandson's birthday party tomorrow & church on Sunday - otherwise will be sewing like crazy!! DH is critiquing everything!! He is the best!!! Go Girls!!!!!!!
Karen in Southeastern Alaska

Another note from Texas:

Howdy everyone from Baird, TX!!!!!!!
Hope y'all are having as much fun as we are. There are only 3 of us here tonight but we expect more tomorrow. So far we have produced 1 fully completed quilt, 2 are quilted but not bound, and 3 pieced tops. Whew!!! Sounds like everyone is off to a great start. We are going to wrap up in a little bit and head to bed so we can get an early start tomorrow.
Hugs to all,
Ginger, Marie and Ida in the boonies where you can hear the coyotes singing

Everyone always needs a pat on the back, and we love our cheerleaders. Thanks, Cher for your words!

WOW !! All of you are doing a great job ! Really ! I am just getting to my sewing machine, and feel so inspired by all the emails, photos, and knowing we are all doing this together. So, when you have taken a break and are reading this, stop and clap your hands ! No, I mean it, do it now-you deserve the applause :-)
Okay, you may now go back to your machines...just keep in mind I am cheering you on the whole time.
GO GO GO ONE MORE BLOCK, GO GO GO ONE MORE BLOCK, LOOK A QUILT TOP !!
hugs Cher

Florida reports:

Hi all,
Muriel in Hollywood, FL, reporting in. Off to a bit of a slow start, waiting for arrivals here. Karen C will be here after she gets off work and throws some food at her family. Spacecoast Susie should be about half way down here. Just got the first Floridian top completed--only enough stash for 14,286 more. BTW, the newspaper reporter is coming by about 8 p.m.--that will slow our progress, but probably energize us too.
Hugs,
Muriel
Hollywood, FL

Ulrika in Sweden is still hard at it!

It's 00:20 a.m. here in Kopparberg, 5:20 p.m. in Chicago. So, we have Saturday now, while you still have Friday... :-) I took a break between 8 and 10 p.m., to watch TV together with DH, after that I made top number 5. My tops turn out a bit smaller than I want to, but I seem to have just small pieces of fabric... oh well... Children come in all sizes... *smile* I'm hungry, so I'm off to chew on something. Back in a little while. :-) Appliqué is next.

Well, it's 1 a.m. Saturday, and I'm really tired. I've had a cup of tea and now I'm off to bed. Will start with the applique project tomorrow after breakfast. It's been a great day! Keep up the good work everyone! :-) Nighty night from a chilly Kopparberg, Sweden (-15 C/5 F outside).

and a second note from Florida

Hi all,
What a great time we're having. Lots of laughing, some eating, and churning out stuff! The reporter, Colleen, was here while ago. She had us all laughing and carrying on. The article will be in Thursday's paper. That's good--it's 25 cents, Sunday is 75 cents! as my daughter, Tammy, pointed out to Colleen. She took a bunch of pictures, the editor will select what's used. She'll check to see, after the paper is out, if we can have her scan some. Evidently there's a lot of rigamarole involved. Boy, I got fabric EVERYWHERE--and that's in addition to the Stash that Ate Hollywood!! Sue emailed us that she will be over tomorrow. Marty was here earlier, left already. And the sweatshop goes on. Not too bad on 3 hours of sleep. Stormy is steady going--you should see some of the unusual combinations she's comes up with--really cute.
Anybody hungry? We've got plenty--you can sew for food here, drop by anytime.
Anybody still awake out there?
Love and hugs
Muriel, Tammy, Susie, Pam, Karen, Stormy, Marty (and Sue tomorrow). We miss you Cheryl!

a goodnight note from Hilary in Dallas, Texas

a final note from Florida before they call it a night.....

OK, our final count before bed time Friday night is 19 tops and 1 completed quilt...and boy oh boy do we have color!! Our borders will keep any child awake ..... actually our borders could cause a great need for a pair of sunglasses to be gifted to the children recieving quilts coming from the Naughty Floridians...
We willl be gain people tomorrow, expecting Sue to arrive and help us out...we will have this end of the state buzzing like a factory tomorrow....but alas, tonight (or should I say this very early morning) we are all beat and headed for bed....trying to get more than the 3½ hours that a couple of us had last night.
Hugs,
M, S, T, ¿, K, S, & M
